WHAT IS GOAL MANAGEMENT TRAINING?

Goal Management Program

Goal Management Training (GMT) is a multi-week cognitive rehabilitation program designed to enhance executive functions in individuals facing challenges with goal setting, planning, and execution. Primarily used as an intervention for individuals with acquired brain injuries, traumatic brain injuries, or other cognitive impairments (e.g., ADHD, long-COVID), GMT focuses on improving higher-order cognitive skills. The program aims to enhance an individual’s ability to set realistic goals, break them down into manageable steps, and successfully execute them. GMT is particularly beneficial for those experiencing difficulties in areas such as time management, organization, and sustained attention. By providing structured training and practical strategies, GMT empowers individuals to regain control over their daily lives, fostering independence and improving overall quality of life.

Additionally, GMT is a weekly training program targeted at focusing on improving executive functions and cognitive skills. ADHD often involves challenges with attention, organization, planning, and goal-setting, which are components of executive function. GMT is designed to address these specific challenges by providing structured interventions to enhance cognitive skills related to goal setting, planning, and task completion. The program offers practical strategies and exercises to improve time management, organization, and overall executive functioning. By participating in GMT, individuals with ADHD can gain valuable skills to better manage their daily tasks, set achievable goals, and enhance their overall executive functioning, leading to improved daily functioning and quality of life.

  • Worry, frustration, and/or dissatisfaction with these problems

  • Openness to learning new skills to address these problems

  • Sufficient memory function to carry educational information forward across weekly sessions
